Abstract: Many students entering research struggle to get their experiments to work. This can result in considerable frustration, and wasted time, reagents, and effort. However, preparation, structure, and reflection will improve each student’s experience and outcomes. Here we outline a concrete strategy for any new researcher to successfully read and execute a scientific protocol.
